Total health programme as an outcome of development initiative that integrate all of the sectors in which we work. We pursue food security as a crosscutting goal, dependent on healthy ecological systems, good governance, social empowerment.

Community Health Solutions to Root Causes

Asian Institute of Poverty Alleviation (AIPA) total health team strengthens the key systems that support improved health and nutrition outcomes in the long term and address disparities systematically through community-based, health facility-based, and policy level interventions. Our primary strengths are in bringing preventive and first level care closer to home through community health workers, ensuring quality facility care at the first level of referral, advocating for key policy and regulation decisions which benefit the health needs of the most vulnerable especially women and children, improving quality of care through both government and private sector, and integrating multiple sectors required for optimal health and nutrition.

Goal:

  • Creating an environment for good governance within pro-poor health
  • Making health security and health justice is a development outcome

Objectives:

  • Provide innovative solutions to health care financing, such as performance-based financing;
  • Improve service delivery and quality of care, scale up, and results;
  • Develop better trained cadre of community-based health workers;
  • Build capacity in leadership and governance to sustain health advances;
  • Support the distribution and use of medicines, vaccines, and technologies (such as contraceptives, vaccines, and micronutrients) and appropriate availability;
  • Strengthen the use of health information.

 

Approach:

AIPA focuses on maternal, new born and child health; nutrition; non-communicable diseases; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and urban health as a special initiative. Health team underscores the importance of integrated programming to achieve optimal health and nutrition for all.

AIPA Centre for Urban Health and Development (CUHD)

AIPA Centre for Urban Health and Development focuses on identifying innovations around the world, evidence on impact, building information about which programs are achieving results, and then sharing that knowledge widely. CUHD also brings together practitioners and communities of innovators to think about how to improve their models which ensure efficiency, cost effectiveness, scale and impact.

Road map to address urban health challenges

  • Urban primary health care centres can effectively be integrated with MNCH, Nutrition, Water and Sanitation programmes to better meet patients and community needs.
  • Urban primary health centres are struggling with capacity barriers, financial barriers and low manpower.
  • Private health care opportunities are available and can be integrated with primary health care with strategic financing and sustainable health care services purchasing mechanism.
  • Opportunities can be explored to integrate primary health care with mother and child health care with other public health services through private sector investment and leveraging through community participation.
